Beth discovered Marshall Rosenberg’s life-changing book "Nonviolent Communication, A Language of Life" in 2005, and has been immersed in it ever since. Inspired to go deeper, she joined a yearlong training program in 2011 called "Compassionate Leadership," which, unknown to her at the time, was the beginning of her journey to NVC Certification.
Shortly after, she discovered the Parent Peer Leadership Program, where she learned skills for integrating NVC into family systems and other social structures, and served on the leadership team for seven years. Created by nonviolent activist Inbal Kashtan, and facilitated by authors Ingrid Bauer / Stephanie Bachmann Mattei, the program focused on living in nonviolent consciousness, and includes sharing these skills with other parents in a workshop called "Parenting from the Heart." She attests her greatest learning has come from raising her own children, who have grown her understanding and consciousness of NVC through daily challenges and celebrations.
Beth's educational career included daycare, preschool, elementary and special ed in both public and private settings, including Montessori. She also served as a houseparent at an emergency shelter for abused and neglected children.
Throughout her life, Beth has been drawn to working with children, family systems, and schools. "Creativity and experiencing the natural world are also powerful influences helping to connect me to myself and the flow of Life"
"In addition, I am visually impaired and for most of my life, have navigated the physical, emotional, and social challenges that come with this journey. "You were calm, succinct, kind and tender while maintaining a ‘certainty’ sowhing the Power of Love is greater than the Love of Power, by your tone, intentions and commitment to listen carefully. Wow…really felt safe!!" -Lydgia
"As an expert in the hospitality industry, I know that serving with attention and care involves active, listening skills, such as paraphrasing and open attentive, body language. Lisa Firestone listens differently; she's a master listener. She can hear what most people have no awareness of Dash listening for what is not being said. And multiple occasions, I've been awestruck by your compassion, and often scramble for a pen and paper after she hit him with an insight based on your intuitive listening skills. She also knows how to question thoughtfully, as well as offer a unique and positive point of view." Hollly S
